Drawer organizers seem simple.

Until you bring them home…and they don’t fit.

Too wide.Too tall.Sliding around.Wasted space.

And suddenly, something that was supposed to make life easier… doesn’t.

Here’s how to get it right the first time.

Step 1: Measure Everything (Not Just Width)

Most people only measure side to side.

But you also need:

  • width (left to right)

  • depth (front to back)

  • height (top to bottom inside the drawer)

That last one matters more than you think.

If it’s too tall, your drawer won’t close properly.

If you’re trying to keep things simple, I’ve linked the exact organizers

I use and recommend HERE...(check measurements)

Step 2: Decide How You Use the Drawer

Before you buy anything, ask:

What actually goes in here?

  • utensils

  • junk drawer items

  • makeup

  • office supplies

Different items need different layouts.

Step 3: Choose the Right Type of Organizer

There are a few main types:

Adjustable dividers

✔ flexible✔ great for larger drawers

Compartment trays

✔ structured✔ good for small items

Clear bins

✔ easy to see everything✔ great for mixed items

Step 4: Don’t Overfill the Space

More organizers ≠ better.

If you try to pack too much in:

  • things won’t stay in place

  • it becomes harder to maintain

Leave a little breathing room.

Step 5: Test Before You Commit

If possible:

  • start with one drawer

  • see what works

  • adjust as needed

You don’t have to organize everything at once.

Easy…but EXTRA Tip

A few organizers that consistently work well:

  • bamboo drawer organizer

  • adjustable dividers

  • clear compartment bins

Why This Works

You’re not guessing.

You’re setting it up in a way that actually fits your space and your life.

Final Thought

Drawer organizers should make things easier.

But only if they fit your space and how you use it.

Measure first.

Then buy.

If you want to keep things simple, you don’t need a lot—just the right pieces.

I’ve put all of my go-to favorites HERE
