Where to Start Decluttering When You Feel Overwhelmed

When everything feels cluttered, the hardest part isn’t the work.

It’s knowing where to start.

So instead of trying to do everything… start small and smart.

Start Where You’ll See Results Fast

Pick a space that gives you a quick win:

  • kitchen counter

  • bathroom drawer

  • coffee table

Seeing a difference quickly builds momentum.

Avoid Sentimental Areas First

Don’t start with:

  • photos

  • keepsakes

  • anything emotional

Start with easy decisions.

Save the harder stuff for later.

Set a Short Timer

You don’t need hours.

Set a timer for:

  • 10 minutes

  • or 15 minutes

Stop when it ends.

Small progress still counts.

Focus on Removing, Not Organizing

Don’t worry about where things go yet.

Just:

  • remove what you don’t need

  • clear the space

Organizing comes after.

Easy…but EXTRA Tip

Keep it simple with:

  • a donation bin

  • a trash bag nearby

  • a small basket for items that belong elsewhere

Final Thought

You don’t need the perfect plan.

You just need a place to start.
